Are you using Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) or Amplify programs in your classroom?
The school district in which I tutor adopted Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA)
as its K-5 Comprehensive Literacy Curriculum for the 2024-2025 school year.
So… I thought about blending the ideas
of teaching with fidelity… and… teaching with integrity
to give students the ELA word recognition and word analysis skills practice I believed would be to their benefit
and
meet our state’s Core ELA Standards
I used the Scope and Sequence provided by Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA)
in the order and pacing in which we were asked to use them
supplementing and complementing classroom instruction for students I tutor
with activities I created.
Early in my teaching career, a very wise building administrator told me:
“In the classroom, you should be teaching the standards, not the textbook your administration has given you.
As a teacher, you should be trusted to use your judgment to determine what will help meet your student’s needs to learn those standards.
You will need to pick and choose from a variety of sources to do that.”
Those words help guide me every year.
